The communication between SIMATIC PCS 7 and intelligent field devices is based on international standards and specifications, such as IEC61158. Traditional field equipment and HART field equipment are more suitable to use ET200 series distributed I/O to connect to PROFIBUS. These sensors/actuators are also available for Ex zones 0, 1 or 2. With ET200M, available for standard environments or Ex zone 2; With ET200iS, it is available for Ex zone 1.
